Well, I knew Sambo was Indian, not African, but I never thought anyone should eat a bullet for getting it wrong.

Chadwick H. Saxelid

There has to be some sibling rivalry between you and Lee, to see just how many different people you can piss off on a given day about a certain topic. Sheesh.

I remember eating at Sambo's when I was a kid - the restaurant was decorated with illustrations of the turbaned kid hanging out with his pet/friend tiger. I don't remember when the name changed, but it had to be in the late 70s. Place never seemed the same after that.

Wow. If this guys a teacher, I hope he grades on a curve.

Or has very large classes.

Hmmm...when i was a kid in middletown ct there was a "Little Black Sambo's" resturant...not an indian in site...just some REALLY offense blackface stereotypes on the menu and such...

maybe there are two Sambo chains?

rob roberge

oh, and that guy is a fucking lunatic. mike dorsey, i mean. an angry man...maybe angrier than Gayle's dad. which is angry

So..it's not racist against Africans, it's racist against Indians...and this is okay?

BTW, the children's book I had as a kid clearly potrayed Sambo (and his mother Black Mumbo and his father Black Jumbo) as stereotypical Africans, complete with huge lips and bones in noses. And tigers in Africa. Told you racism would make you ignorant.

And "Sambo" has been a derogatory term for blacks as long as I can remember.

In short, this Dorsey guy is full of shit.

carolyn

at least be a fucktard who can spell. as mike dorsey certainly can't.

Angela

Wow! The backlash! Yeah, we had a SAMBO's and I've got news for this guy--there was too black references and such in the restaurant. At least the one I used to eat at in Visalia growing up. That kind of says it all. Dorsey doesn't even use proper grammar! Idiot!

Brian F.

For chrissake, Tod, don't keep us in suspense--did you kill yourself?

dave zarkin

Somebody had a bad day driving on the freeway. Sambo's in the Twin Cities ceased and deceased more than 20 years ago, but you can still buy Aunt Jemima's syrup and pancake mix and Uncle Ben's rice. But what ever happened to Walt Disney's Song of the South with Uncle Remus, Briar Rabbit et al? Never pops up on the Disney Channel. Maybe they show it at some Sambo's in the hereafter.

Thank you, JD. I remembered reading "Little Black Sambo" as a child. There is a new edition titled, "The Story of Little Black Sambo." (Amazon.com)

I'm also with you on the racism is racism no matter to whom it is directed.

Gina

=Gigglesnort= Wow, someone has a limited insult vocabulary (along with not-so-good grammar). If I was going to send someone hatemail, I'd at least be literate about it so people wouldn't make jokes about it.
